Meet Our Newest Associate!
Meet Scott A. Thompson, our new Senior Associate Attorney!
Scott graduated from The George Washington University in Washington DC, and from Fordham University School of Law in New York City.
Before joining CHA Law Group, Scott was an associate attorney with two large New York City firms where he practiced commercial litigation from 2008 to 2012, representing corporations and banks in business disputes.
One of the high points of Scott’s career was working on the landmark New York case of Debra H. v. Janice R. In that case, a lesbian couple co-parented a child without completing a second parent adoption. When they split, the non-biological mother sought visitation, and the biological mother opposed. Scott was a member of the team at Fried Frank that worked with the child’s attorney. His team worked with the Lambda Legal team helping the child’s mother, and together they argued that the non-biological mother should be allowed to seek custody or visitation. New York’s highest court agreed. Scott is proud to have played a role.
After his time in New York, Scott worked as an assistant public defender in Delaware in 2012 and 2013. There, he represented criminal defendants in a dedicated Family Court. Scott then relocated to Namibia, Africa in 2013 and 2014. He worked in Namibia as a high school science teacher, a freelance journalist, and a consultant for a non-governmental organization that helped subsistence farmers use organic, rain-fed methods.
In Namibia, Scott met his wife, Jain, who was born and raised in Austin. They relocated to Austin in 2015. Since then, Scott has practiced law as a criminal prosecutor in Hays County and, more recently, he found a home with CHA Law Group. As a Senior Associate with CHA Law Group, Scott’s practice focuses on criminal defense and contested family law matters.
