If she met you at a party, Christine might tell you, “I help people make babies.” Our niche at CHA Law Group is supporting people with all of the legal parts of creative family-making. Which is to say, we do reproductive law—everything having to do with assisted reproductive technology (ART), surrogacy and adoptions for straight, LGBT, partnered, and single clients who want to be parents. Of course we handle other aspects of family life for LGBT folks and straight people, such as separation/divorce-related matters, including child custody. We also do wills and estate planning.
At CHA Law Group, we are primarily a peaceful people. When there’s a choice between a fight and a negotiation, we’re always going to prefer collaborative decision-making to get results for our clients. If you want an attorney to spend as much money as possible and ram the other side with particularly cumbersome discovery, unneeded depositions, unnecessary preliminary hearings, etc., you should look elsewhere. That said, not every case can settle, and if you have a contested divorce or need to battle CPS, we will be your staunchest advocates to stand up for your rights. Ask us about past tricky cases that Christine has won in the courtroom (or settled favorably) that had similar facts to your case, and we can give you specific examples.
We welcome all stripes of the LGBT rainbow, offering LGBT / Queer-specific legal services you’ll rarely find on a lawyer’s shingle here in Texas. Need to adopt your girlfriend’s baby that was grown from your egg through reciprocal IVF? We’re your firm. Need to correct your gender identity on your driver’s license? We’ve got you covered.
Do you need legal help to start, grow, or stop family-making? Austin-based family law attorney Christine Henry Andresen and the entire CHA Law Group team are here to discuss your options, answer your questions and get your situation legal. Please contact us to schedule a consultation. We’re not your grandfather’s law firm. In a good way.

- Meet the Team
The CHA Law Group of Austin, Texas is a lot more than just family law attorney Christine Henry Andresen. A lawyer may be crucial to a successful law practice, but so is a sharp, dedicated, and savvy staff. A sense of humor doesn’t hurt either. Please meet the people putting the “group” into the CHA Law Group:
Scott A. Thompson is our Senior Associate Attorney. His practice includes both family law and criminal defense. Scott graduated from The George Washington University and Fordham University School of Law. Prior to joining CHA Law Group, Scott worked in two large New York City law firms practicing commercial litigation. Scott then worked as an assistant public defender in Delaware, a foreign aid worker in Namibia, and a criminal prosecutor in Texas after moving to Austin with his wife, Jain. Scott’s favorite muppets are Statler and Waldorf.
Alexandra L. Gullet is an Associate Attorney with CHA Law Group. Alexandra has a BA from Scripps College, a Graduate Diploma in Law from the City Law School in London (where she is a member of the Inner Temple), and an LLM from the University of Texas Law School. Before joining CHA Law Group, Alexandra worked as a legal assistant in her hometown of San Francisco, a paralegal in Massachusetts, and a Reproductive Rights Intern for the American Civil Liberties Union in Texas. She has also worked internationally, both as a legal intern in South Africa and with the International Bridges to Justice in Switzerland. In her spare time, Alexandra enjoys handcrafting candles and soaps. Alexandra also has an appreciation for classical and rock music… like her favorite muppet Rowlf.
Angie Peña-Alfaro is our Paralegal. Prior to becoming the Paralegal with CHA Law Group, Angie was a Child Advocacy Specialist and volunteer with CASA of Travis County. It was that experience that sparked her interest in family law, and Angie obtained a Paralegal Certification through the University of Texas at Austin. While in the midst of becoming certified, Angie served as a Paralegal Intern with the Travis County Office of Child Representation. Angie's favorite muppet is Miss Piggy.
Brooke Redden is CHA Law Group's Business Manager. She has a Government degree from Cornell University, and is a former AmeriCorps volunteer. Her business career took her to work at the State Bar of Montana, and elsewhere as an office manager. When she applied to work at CHA Law Group, she had originally said her favorite muppet was Kermit, but upon reflection, decided upon Animal.
Veronica Cadena is CHA Law Group's Administrative Assistant. She is currently attending Texas State University, studying to get her bachelor's degree in Sociology. Her dream job is to work for Victim Services. And her favorite muppet is Kermit.
Jessah Castro is the Legal and Business Assistant for CHA Law Group. Jessah received her B.A. in Political Science from Texas State University, where she also worked in Academic Testing for Students With Disabilities. After moving to Austin with her husband, Jessah took on a new and even more challenging role-she became a mom. Jessah appreciates the exceptional comedic stylings of Fozzie Bear, making him her favorite muppet.
Duriba Khan is CHA Law Group’s Marketing Assistant. She is currently a student at UT Austin studying advertising and political communication, with plans to attend law school. When Duriba isn’t dreaming of being as classy as Miss Piggy, she is writing in a coffee shop or teaching herself to talk like Morgan Freeman.
- Christine is an AAARTA Fellow. The American Academy of Assisted Reproductive Technology Attorneys has granted Fellowships to only ten attorneys in Texas.
- Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid Award for Exemplary Legal Work by a Private Attorney for Victims of Domestic Violence (2007)
